Week 16: Marathon Week!! & What to Eat After | Feed Your Runner
We've finally arrived in Boston! Read about race weekend news and next week's meal plan & nutrition tips for while you're on break.
Hi friends,
I’m sending this from Boston! We finally made it to race weekend!! I'm loving the magnolias blossoming, the runs along the Charles, and the conversations with so many old and new friends. If you see me, come say hi!
I just want to bottle up these feelings of excitement and anticipation and community. Trying to hold onto the all the good that took 16 weeks to reach so that when we inevitably restart the monotonous grind of dishes and high mileage, I'll be renewed and willing.
Clayton is in carb loading mode. Cereal, toast, rice, pasta, pretzels, Cadence carb bars. Allllllll the good stuff. We’re walking the line between eating to satiation and making sure that his glycogen stores are ready for what's to come.
I’m obviously hoping for a good day on Monday, but I’ve also come to peace with the fact that even mediocre or bad races all have their place in the journey. Just happy to be living it. :)
And happy Easter this Sunday! I’m feeling grateful for a reason to carve out some quiet in all of this excitement. I’m grateful for Jesus Christ!
Take care,
Ashley
We planned next week as a “recovery” week. You'll notice that there are some fun foods and some of the same food from previous weeks. I hope this emphasizes that we try for an “all foods fit” approach. Clayton does loosen up a bit after a big race, but he also doesn't over-restrict during a build. Jackie has some great info on this in this week's nutrition tip.
Breakfast
Even though Clayton will run lower mileage this week, breakfast is still a big meal at our house. We'll probably still make scrambled eggs a few times this week in addition to these yummy recipes.
And don't be surprised if Clayton eats ice cream with breakfast. He likes his sweets early in the day!
Lunch
Clayton usually eats big breakfasts, so we keep lunch time pretty simple. His typical go-to is turkey sandwiches with pretzels or chips. We’ll include a serving of tuna this week for omega-3s as well.
Snack
The girls are going to love these cookies!!
Dinner
Monday: race day
We'll go with Clayton’s cravings on this day! Often it's a burger.
Tuesday: recovery day
Since we will still be traveling this day, we’ll follow Clayton’s cravings again. He often enjoys Chinese food the day after a marathon.
Wednesday: easy mileage
Thursday: easy mileage
Friday: easy mileage
Sweetgreen harvest bowl leftovers
Saturday: easy mileage
Sunday: recovery day
