Week 15: Marathon Week!! & What to Eat After
We've made it to race day! And we've got a great lineup of recipes to look forward to post-race + Jackie's nutrition deep dive about post-race mindset.
Hi friends,
Clayton and I have had a great week here in Japan! The altitude training base here at Yunomaru has been really amazing. Clayton’s been doing a lot of heat training in order to be ready for the heat and humidity on race day—lots of layering up and lots of time in the onsen (hot steam baths).
We’ve been so grateful for the peace and quiet of the mountains before we go down to the exciting chaos of the city.
We’ll take the train back to Tokyo tomorrow, and from there we’ll lock in.
Race day is Monday morning for us, but for the U.S. it will be on Sunday, September 14th (Clayton’s birthday!).
It should be broadcast on 5 p.m. MDT on CNBC.
Thanks for cheering us on! And best of luck with whatever you have this week!
Take care,
Ashley
This week’s meal plan has a lot of fun food! Jackie’s done a great job of structuring this week as a step back from the intensity and focus of a marathon build, and her nutrition deep dive goes into more of the mindset on how to approach these post-race days.
Breakfast
I like to batch prep a few breakfast options, and then mix and match them throughout the week with eggs (usually scrambled with bell peppers) and cereal (I can’t keep Clayton from his rice krispies + bananas or his honey bunches of oats; he’s also a big fan of granola). He usually eats both a savory and a sweet option each morning.
I love baking with extra zucchini. I’m excited for these muffins!
Lunch
Clayton usually eats big breakfasts (post morning run) and big dinners (post afternoon run), so we keep lunch time pretty simple. His typical go-to is turkey sandwiches with pretzels or chips. We’ll include a serving of tuna this week for omega-3s as well.
Snack
The girls and I love this s’mores mix! Clayton usually opts to just eat the golden grahams in milk, but he loves a few bites too.
Dinner
Monday: race day
I imagine we’ll find something similar to this in Tokyo after the race! Clayton also typically likes a big burger or a burrito after a marathon, so we’ll see what we can find.
Tuesday: walk/short run
Wednesday: run if it’s fun
Thursday: run if it’s fun
Greek chicken pita wrap leftovers.
Friday: run if it’s fun
This feels fancy!
Saturday: run if it’s fun
Cashew crunch chicken salad.
Sunday: recovery day
Blackberry pear prosciutto pizza.
